How To Choose The Perfect Garden Decor

Gardening is primarily a therapeutic activity. Some people do gardening to relieve stress. But there are others who see the garden as an exterior part of the overall theme of their house design. They engage in gardening for its aesthetic beauty. That’s why every garden decor that they choose has to compliment their home.

A garden decor is often used as an accent in the backyard. Each piece is deliberately chosen to impress visitors and for the house to standout in the neighborhood. Who would not want to have their home referred to as the one with the beautiful garden? So, here are some tips on how to choose the right garden decor:

  • Choose a garden decor that will go with your interior design. If your interior design is a modern minimalist, then a quiet monochromatic piece should be chosen. If your interior design is Victorian, wooden statues or panels will go well with the theme.
  • Make sure that the decor will be able to withstand the varying elements of nature. Each piece is an investment intended to last for years. If you want a wooden statue, be sure it’s hand-rubbed and varnish-coated at least three times. Decors that are made of metal or iron should be rust proof.
  • The decor should reflect your family’s personality. Do not choose something that your children won’t be able to relate to. After all, you would want the garden to be part of their memory of home.
  • If there are going to be children running around the garden, make sure that each decor is safe for kids. Do not use paints that can easily chip and potentially harm your children. Bird houses, bird feeders, statues or posts should be stable to avoid the possibility of it toppling down on the little ones. If there is a need to use electrical wirings, be sure that they are properly installed and out of reach of children.
  • Choose a piece that will be easy for you to maintain. Ill-maintained bird feeders or statues with hard to reach crevices may be breeding grounds for germs and bacteria that are harmful to your family. Do not choose something that will require so much of your attention if you do not have the time for it.
  • As much as possible, do not choose a decor made of plastic. Not only is it tacky, but there will be parts of the year where you will have to take it indoors for it last longer. Plastic is also harmful to the environment, which defeats the purpose of gardening.

You can have a professional do the landscaping for your garden or you can do it yourself. But either way, the goal is to have your house exude elegance right at first glance. They say that first impression lasts. Your garden is the first impression that people will have of your house and home life. So, choose a garden decor that will compliment every member of your family’s personality and the interior decoration of your house.
